Overview

Nothing compares to the sight, sound & smell of a real live steam locomotive. Our portable miniature steam railway is a rare treat. From the moment the fire is lit, our  beautifully painted & maintained engine & first class coaches become an instant attraction.
The rolling stock is further complimented by our skilled staff, in authentic railway uniform. All of our staff are seasoned entertainment professionals, bringing character & fun into every guest interaction.

Safety

Keeping the fun, fun.

• We comply with HS2020, the current HSE guidance for passenger carrying miniature railways.
• Speed on the railway is limited to 3 MPH (For reference, brisk walking speed is around 4 MPH) As an additional fail-safe, we also operate under line-of-sight.
• Whilst HS2020 states that at this speed, with LOS, fencing is not required, we also provide a physical chain/post fence & repeated clear signage.
• All drivers have been trained on a public running miniature steam railway, with a strong focus on safety.
• Passengers are reminded of safe practice before every journey.

Requirements

Where can we install our railway?

Installing our railway, though straightforward, does require a flat, level area. Just like its full-size counterpart, our locomotive can't climb steep inclines (more than 1:20). It also requires fairly level ground on which to lay the track. We don't by any means need a bowling green, and bring packing material for small variations (up to 50mm). On grass, the area needs to have sufficient drainage to avoid it becoming waterlogged, as the loco weighs close to 250 kg, & a fully loaded carriage is about 380kg.

We would normally prefer to arrange a site visit to confirm suitability, though a few photographs can be very helpful at first.

Our Steam Loco

Bagnall 0-4-0 "Felix"

Our trains are hauled by our resident loco, "Felix". Built by two of the country's most respected steam engineers, John & John Rex.
It's highly detailed paintwork was completed by us in Portland.
The beauty of a real, live steam engine can't be beaten, with all the sights, sounds & smells you'd expect.

Track Layouts

Find out which works best for you.

We can vary the track layout to best suit your location. The 4 above are our regular layouts, with their approximate dimensions. (You'll need an extra 2-3 metres all around the outside of the track for safety.)
Should you require something different, we may well be able to accommodate your needs.
The first 100 metres of track length is included in our base price, with each additional 10 metres of track adding £135 to the total cost per event.

Our Electric Loco

Perfect for indoor events.

Please note that this locomotive is currently in development.

Designed to look & sound like a steam locomotive, our electric locomotive will be perfect for indoor events, or locations where safety concerns preclude the use of a live-steam engine. Fitted with both a sound unit (producing both the familiar "chuff-chuff" sound & that of a steam whistle) & a "steam" unit (which actually only uses a little tap water at low temperature) to create the illusion of live steam.
